Digitizing Documents Digitizing is the process of turning real world, physical information into a format that can be recognized by computers. The converted information is called digital because it consists of ones and zeroes (digits). Turning paper and other hard documents into digital - and editable - text files requires a scanner and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. In the absence of such software, scanned documents are nothing more than digitized images (pictures) that cannot be edited. Worse, images (i.e. GIF and JPEG) are significantly larger than text files, with the result that transfer times (uploading downloading) on the Internet are considerably greater - much greater. It is, therefore, essential to convert your scanned paper documents into editable text files, such as Microsoft Word documents, before sending these over the Internet. What is OCR and what program should I buy? See our publication on OCR Technology. Using TextBridge Pro Millennium Follow the instructions below to OCR documents using TextBridge Pro Millennium.
That's it. Your paper document has now been converted into an electronic text file ready to be edited on your computer. Important - before sending this over the Internet, ensure that your new digital file is fully compressed. See our sections on File Compression and Zipping Files.
